A deliciously easy recipe for maple and pecan filled pinwheel style pastries! Just five simple ingredients and only fifteen minutes baking time, you can have these delicious pastries on the table in no time at all!

I absolutely love pecan plait pastries and these maple and pecan pinwheels are a super easy take on those delicious treats.

They only need five simple ingredients and they taste amazing! Just finely chop your pecans and mix with your melted butter, sugar and maple syrup, then carefully fill each of your pastry squares with the yummy, sweet, nutty mixture.

They only take fifteen minutes to bake and they’re ready to eat as soon as they’re cool enough!

These pastries are best eaten on the day of baking, but will keep in a cool and dry place for a few days. They can be eaten hot or cold and pop them back in the oven to reheat them if needed.

They’re dairy free, egg free, easily gluten free and of course, completely plant based!

Makes eight pastry pinwheels

Ingredients;

1 pack ready made puff pastry

150g finely chopped pecans

3 tbs soft brown sugar

3 tbs maple syrup

30g vegan butter melted

1/2 tsp cinnamon or vanilla powder – optional

1 tbs plant milk - optional

2 tbs extra soft brown sugar - optional

You will also need; baking tray, baking paper, mixing bowl, pastry brush, sharp knife, spoon

How to make your pastries;

  1. Preheat your oven to 180c and line your baking tray with baking paper

  2. In a mixing bowl add the melted butter, maple syrup and brown sugar and stir together to make a syrup mixture

  3. Add the finely chopped pecans and stir until all the nuts are covered in the syrup mixture Set aside

  4. Unroll your ready made puff pastry and cut into eight squares/rectangles

  5. Use your knife to cut from each corner towards the middle of each pastry square, but not quite all the way to the centre

  6. Place the pastry squares onto the baking paper covered tray

  7. Place around 1-2 tbs of the pecan mixture into the centre of each pastry square

  8. Now fold in each alternating pastry corner to make the pinwheel or star shape and gently press together in the centre of the pastry

  9. Repeat until all the pastries have been filled with pecan mixture and all have had the corners folded in

  10. Brush the tops of all the pastries with a little plant milk and sprinkle over some extra soft brown sugar

  11. Bake the pastries for 15-20 minutes until golden

  12. Leave to cool on the tray and now your pastries are ready to eat!

Tips & Tricks!

  • Most ready made puff pastry is vegan friendly, but do check the ingredients

  • The corner folding part can sound fiddly, but once you’ve done the first pastry it makes much more sense! Simply fold into the middle every other pastry corner to make the pinwheel or star shape
