Snowflake Nutella Pull-Apart Pastry Recipe

The perfect Christmas breakfast centre piece which looks so much more complicated than it really is!

You only need two main ingredients to make this yummy pull-apart sharing pastry! The snowflake design looks so much more intricate than it really is, so you can whip up this festive breakfast treat in no time at all. The perfect alternative to pain au chocolat on Christmas morning!

This recipe makes one large pull-apart pastry snowflake. If you would like, you can prep this bake ahead of time, then store it in the fridge until baking. It tastes delicious fresh from the oven when the Nutella is all warm and gooey or when it has cooled and the pastry filling is set and crispy. Best eaten on the day of baking.

Makes one large pastry snowflake

2 sheets of ready made vegan puff pastry

4-6 tbs vegan Nutella or chocolate spread

2 tbs plant milk for glazing

Optional icing sugar dusting decorating

You will also need; a baking tray, baking paper, knife, pastry brush, large plate to be a circle template

How to make your pastry;

  1. Pre heat your oven to 180c

  2. Roll out your first sheet of pastry, then place your plate towards one side and using a knife cut around the plate like a template so that you have one large circle of pastry. You want your plate to be roughly the width of the pastry so that you can cut the largest circle you can

  3. Set the pastry circle and the remaining cut-off half sheet of pastry aside

  4. Repeat the above steps using the second sheet of pastry. You should now have two large circles of pastry and two remaining cut-off pieces

  5. Trim the two cut-off pieces into rough rectangles then line them up to make a new, third, sheet of pastry by gently squashing the two pieces of pastry together down the middle. Repeat cutting around the plate template to make a third circle of pastry

  6. Line your baking tray with baking paper then place down your first pastry circle

  7. Spread around 2-3 tbs of vegan Nutella over the pastry circle - the more Nutella the better imo!

  8. Lay the second circle of pastry on top, then repeat spreading over a layer of Nutella before placing the third circle of pastry on top. You should have the layers, pastry, nutella, pastry, nutella, pastry

  9. Using the base of a glass, lightly imprint a small circle into the middle of the pastry. This will help make all your cuts even

  10. Using a sharp knife make cuts as if you're cutting the pastry into quarters. Then make cuts to halve all the quarters. Then divide all your eighths in halve again. You should now have sixteen pieces come out from the inner circle

  11. Take the bottom two pastry pieces and twist them towards each other. You should be twisting the left piece clockwise and the right piece anticlockwise

  12. Twist them two or three times so that you can see the nice swirls of Nutella, then tightly press the ends of the pastry together

  13. You've now made the first 'arm' of the snowflake! Repeat twisting each pair of pastry pieces together until you have eight twisted 'arms' and your pastry should be looking more like a snowflake shape

  14. Lightly glaze your pastry by brushing it with plant milk

  15. Bake for around 15-20 minutes until golden brown

  16. Optional, dust your pastry with icing sugar using a sieve

  17. Eat and enjoy!
