What puts you off from baking at home?

I was shocked by this answer to my Instagram stories post!

“I recently asked in my stories what puts you off from baking at home and the most popular answer was not what I was expecting at all!  Welcome back to my Wednesday thoughts!

I thought the comments would be things like having to wash up afterwards or the cost of ingredients, but the answer I got back the most was that people were scared of eating the baked goods and gaining weight, and this just made me feel so sad!

How did we get to a place where the joy of creating something from scratch became overshadowed by the anxiety about eating it?

Baking is a hobby and a life skill that has been passed down through generations.  A way of celebrating, creating memories and expressing creativity, but it seems to have become something people feel they have to avoid out of fear.

Eating healthily is important and sweet treats, are just that, a treat.  But it seems to me like fear is stealing experiences.

Baking isn't just about eating the finished cake.  It's about mindfulness, experimenting, sharing and seeing someone smile when they take that first bite.

Maybe we shouldn’t be discussing whether baking makes us gain weight.  Maybe we should be talking about whether diet culture has made us afraid of one of life's simplest pleasures.”
