It's easy to grab a jar of apple sauce when you're at the shops, but it only takes a few minutes to make your own even more delicious apple sauce at home!

Apple sauce is a great pantry staple which can be used in so many different ways! It's delicious by its self, stirred into porridge, added to ice cream or as part of lots of different baking recipes!
You simply chop your apples, then add everything to your saucepan. Just simmer for a few minutes until everything is soft, sweet and yummy! It's such an easy recipe, you can also make it in the microwave! See my tips and tricks section at the end of the recipe.

This recipe makes one small batch of apple sauce and it is incredibly easy to double or triple the recipe to make larger batches. It needs to be kept in the fridge and is best eaten within a week.
It’s dairy free, egg free, gluten free, nut free and of course completely plant based!

Makes one small batch of apple sauce
Ingredients;
3 cooking or Bramley apples
20g vegan butter
40g either soft brown or white granulated sugar
Juice 1 small lemon
You will also need; a small saucepan, spoon, knife
How to make your apple sauce;
Peel and chop your apples into small cubes
Add the chopped apple to your saucepan, along with the butter, sugar and lemon juice
Heat on a low-medium temperature, stirring occasionally, for around 5-10 minutes until the apples have softened
I like to keep my apple sauce with some small pieces of apple, but you could blend it if you prefer a completely smooth sauce
Add to a bowl or jar and leave to cool
Now your apple sauce is ready to eat!

Tips & Tricks!
This recipe is based on making one small batch, but you can easily double or triple the recipe to make larger batches
You could flavour your apple sauce by adding 1/2 tsp of cinnamon or vanilla powder
If you prefer a completely smooth sauce, use a blender to remove any small apple pieces
You can also make this apple sauce in the microwave. Add everything to a microwaveable bowl or jug and cover with a lid or plate. Heat in 1-2 minute bursts, stirring in between, until the apple has softened. Then mash the apple with a fork. This method works absolutely fine, but I think it tastes nicer cooked a little slower on the hob so that the apple flavour has more time to come out.
I used Flora block butter
